program:

Concept of this building is based idea of “Unveiling the flavor of Asia” with Culinary gastronomy center, which can serve as a node and landmark for the neighborhood. Center is aiming to create a culinary hub into area that has rich history in Kuala Lumpur, as a center of trade and vibrant street life. Food being integral part of Malaysian culture, makes this center a natural meeting place thus engaging surrounding community and tourist alike in way that speaks common language over cultural barriers. Culinary pleasures are also a form of art, which is respected and nurtured in the center by dedicating building for this purpose, which absorbs from the heritage surrounding it and returns it back in new altered form that has been influenced by chef’s that create culinary art inside. Following old saying “we are what we eat”, this concept also incorporates idea that good organic nourishment can serve human spirit as well as needs of the body. 

 

Design idea and concept:

Surrounding area is crucial factor for this design idea as it draws inspiration and users from it. Location on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee taps into lively area that is combining shop houses that combine commercial space with residential.  Colonial times are still evident in the style of district and that gives help when tapping into essentially cosmopolitan lifestyle that gives identity to the area. Building is divided into two parts first one being culinary art school,restaurant and second one garden, this  design idea is helping to address issues that the site has, which are mainly related to usual city life: lack of security, greenery and public amenities.  Building will be enhance feeling of pride in the area increasing spirit of the local community thus helps to address security issues in conjunction of increasing presence of people that are dedicated to ideals. Secondly building has greenery attached to in a form of a garden that covers wall and ground lowering pulsation and creating a space which grows vegetables and spices for restaurant consequently creating small oasis in midst of the city. Culinary Art Center serves as public amenity for the whole neighborhood as it provides them its services and draws from the strengths of the district in a form of using products of local wet market.  Ultimate design idea is to revive the food culture of area and enhance it bringing local cuisine to cotemporary position and highlighting its identity.

 

Tectonics

This project has used several architecture tectonics techniques such as: seductive tectonic that increases the sense of imagination and guide people thought the building.

Scenography:

In this design the scenography been used to express visual experiment thought the permeability movement for users within and for those overlooking the structure.
